IRMINGHAM, Ala. – With day one of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships complete, the Tennessee State track and field team will look to make up ground on day two in the finals. The Flying Tigers sit in fifth place with 17 points, while the Tigerbelles are in ninth with three points.
Day one saw the men’s and women’s high jump, and men’s and women’s weight throw events go final, while several Tigers competed in prelim running events, with many advancing to tomorrow’s finals.
On the men’s side, Forrest Saffo notched a top-five finish as he earned a third-place finish in the men’s weight throw with a toss of 18.96m to earn the men six points. Junior David Dorsey earned the squad five points as he earned fourth place in the long jump with a 7.30m. Keandric Verge was two spots behind Dorsey in sixth place, which earned three points.
The 4000m Distance Medley Relay team of Thaddee Barge, Jeremiah Lewism Sunny Quinn, and Robert Hooper finished in sixth-place after clocking a 10:39.74 to earn the team three points.
On the women’s side, Alayna Darrett finished just outside of the top five as she came in sixth place in the high jump with a leap of 1.60m (5″3″) to earn TSU 3 points. The Lady Tigers sit in 9th place after day one.
Today’s action is set to start at 9:00 a.m. with the women’s pentathlon.
